H-1B Visas needed
As most CIOs already know, finding the right staff can sometimes be a very big problem. To help ease the pressure, two large tech organizations have joined together to urge Congress to put immigration reform back on the radar. The two groups are the IEEE-USA and Semiconductors Industry Association. They are normally not on the same track for H-1B visas. But this time, they want Congress to make a move on several key issues, including raising the cap on employment-based visas. In a letter to Congress, the groups said, "SIA and IEEE-USA both support legislation that will strengthen America's high-tech workforce." The IEEE-USA has long opposed Congressional proposals to raise the cap. Meanwhile, the SIA has argued to raise the cap, which covers 85,000 visas, including 20,000 visas for foreign students. The immigration bill that included raising the numbers saw an early death this spring, over issues that included border control and amnesty for non-legal immigrants. Let us know what you think about this issue and how you deal with tech staffing shortages in the comments.
