Groups developing cloud computing standards

Any new idea needs time to bubble up and grow. That's certainly the case for cloud computing which, so far, has been growing without any standards. Now industry groups and organizations are joining forces to come up with standardization for cloud computing.

"Rather than one-by-one agreements and developing hundreds of standards that overlap, we're working together," Richard Soley, chairman of and CEO of the Object Management Group said last week during a panel discussion at the National Defense University Information Resources Management College's Cloud Computing Symposium in Washington, D.C.

There are standards which help keep the Internet organized and thriving. Similarly, the cloud computing group is looking at standardization in a number of specific ways, including security, information about deployment, management frameworks and data exchange formats.

To help get input from the community, the groups have set up a Wiki. Have an idea? Send it in.
