Google launches Instant Previews
Google is working hard to make finding information via its search engine even faster and more seamless. And it does have a few tricks remaining, even after the recent debut of its Google Instant feature, which returns search results while users are still typing search terms in. This week, Google rolled out Instant Previews, which gives users a chance to take a peek at the web page before clicking on them.
Search results now return a magnifying glass icon, which can be clicked to toggle Instant Previews. When toggled, snapshots of the respective websites will appear to the right when the mouse cursor is placed over any of the search results on the page. Clicking on the icon again toggles Instant Previews off. I gave the feature a spin, and it worked as advertised. Beyond mere convenience, perhaps this could also serve as a guard against inadvertently visiting spam sites.
Google says that Instant Previews should have been rolled out and available in 40 languages over the last few days.
