Google gives local businesses a little help

Google is giving local businesses a break by making sure their data is listed correctly online and giving them access to zip codes where a local search originates. All this is part of Google's effort to help local businesses figure out what people want in their community and the key words they use to find a site. For example, the search may seek "pizza restaurants" or Chinese ones.

The idea is to give businesses the marketing information they need to make business decisions. For example, do people in one zip code want a service more than others? It also allows businesses to make advertising decisions about which neighborhoods to target.

The service is coming out this week for those in the United States with Local Business Center accounts.
