Google Considers Bid in Upcoming Spectrum Auction
Google, the company that seems to be everywhere lately, could be making a big push into the telecom market. Richard Whitt, Washington, D.C. telecom and media counsel for Google, said earlier this week that the company is considering trying to win spectrum in an upcoming FCC auction. While he did not disclose details on exactly what the company would do if it won the spectrum, possible considerations could be building a network and offering wireless services to end users (like the company does in Mountain View, CA) or letting other service providers use the spectrum. Rumors have been flying that Google would be releasing a wireless handset, but the notion of Google expressing interest in spectrum is new.
