Global standards for privacy

No one argues against the fact that having one set of privacy standards would save money and help reduce confusion, but creating those global standards is a tall order. The main problem is that the U.S. and Europe each look at the definition of privacy differently. But coming to a common understanding is crucial and it's up to the European Union to make it happen.
