Getting a grip on global risks
It may seem a stretch to some tech leaders, but globalization and the very real risks tied to that business effort are issues CIOs must face head-on even if convincing fellow corporate leaders is a tough challenge. As one national policy and risk expert explains, what's taking place around the globe will always have a dynamic impact on every business. The focus for tech leaders is to make their organization aware of the risks and put appropriate security and protective measures in place. You can start with some small steps, such as mandating that all partners, providers and outside services prove they have comprehensive contingency plans in place. Second, seriously consider a backup operations location if you don't have one already. As the expert notes, those CIOs who give the company executive team a realistic assessment of the risks posed by global networks will gain both stature and respect as business leaders.
