Forrester: Windows 7 on the up, Internet Explorer continues slide
Windows remains the predominant OS of choice in the enterprise and can be found on 88% of corporate systems, according to a new study by Forrester Research. The study analyzed more than 400,000 client PCs.
Forrester says 21% of corporate PCs now run on Windows 7. On the other hand, Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT) Internet Explorer appears to have taken a hit as companies switch from ancient Windows XP systems to Microsoft's latest OS. Some of these companies have simultaneously swapped out IE for the likes of Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, resulting in a decline of 3% from just a year ago for IE. The trend appears to lean strongly toward Google Chrome, which has grown to 14.1% from 8.8%. The Forrester report notes that "Chrome's steady growth in corporate browser market is thanks largely to tech savvy workers clamoring for more control over the applications they run on their work computers."
The pressure on IE is unlikely to relent in the foreseeable future, given the current emphasis on Internet applications that work on all the major browsers. Does your company have a preferred or supported browser?
