Ford Motor goes wireless, hurdles still exist

Automaker Ford Motor says its move to replace 8,000 employee land-line phones with mobile phone devices has been a successful project, but it's not continuing the wireless endeavor because of a few hurdles that still put wireless connectivity use behind traditional phone infrastructure. Those same hurdles--lack of business user features, wireline-wireless integration snafus and the market's lack of attention to business enterprise requirements--are exactly what is stalling other corporate entities from going wireless in the workplace. As one leading analyst explains, the obstacles range from the mundane to important, such as required battery life to improved ergonomic handsets necessary for corporate workers.
