Florida city uses security app for records in the cloud
Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Apps and Docs offer considerable appeal for organizations looking to reduce costs and maintenance workloads, but these cloud-based services also create challenges when it comes to security, management and control. Panama City, Fla., turned to an application called CloudLock for GoogleApps to address regulatory and governance requirements when it recently moved records to the cloud provider, reports Ellen Messmer at NetworkWorld.
CloudLock is a Google marketplace security app made by Aprigo. It enables administrators to control document access by individual users or groups, and it provides a way to track which documents are shared beyond the organization. It also manages who is allowed to copy local files to the cloud provider and who can edit them.
In Panama City, the security application will be used not just by the IT group but also by other departments. Each unit will have specific controls for their own records, and that way they will know how their records are used.
