Five ways to dive into Big Data
Big data, by definition, is an immense challenge. Even though the very thought of it can be overwhelming, there are ways to make it manageable. Samuel Greengard at Baseline magazine offers five suggestions:
- Research the many ways in which the data can be put to use so you understand your best alternatives.
- Take advantage of analytics systems, and identify the tools that are best suited to your organization.
- Establish policies and workflows that make it easier to use big data. Different user groups have to know what data is theirs to use and how to use it. There should also be processes and systems for turning insights from big data into real initiatives.
- Don't ignore the security and privacy risks that big data generates. Be sure to implement necessary protections.
- Hire big data experts--and you might want to hire them now; the coming years are expected to see a shortage of data analytics experts.
