Firms shore up security after laptop thefts
The continuing rash of laptop thefts and data losses should have every enterprise on its toes when it comes to securing mobile devices and external access to valuable corporate information. Some large U.S. companies are actually ahead of the curve on the issue. Ernst & Young and Fidelity have both has begun encrypting all data on laptops in the hands of its 30,000-employee workforce. Aetna is increasing restrictions on all mobile devices, including thumb drives. While the cost of taking on such security measures isn't cheap by any means, experts say it's a necessity today given the loss that one security theft or data theft can cost a company.
