Feds see a need to outlaw rootkits

If you thought the issue of rootkits had faded away, think again. Apparently all the noise about Sony BMG Music's use of the rootkit software is prompting one federal agency to suggest the need to place a ban on use of the application. Jonathan Frenkel, director of law enforcement policy at the U.S Department of Homeland Security, says outlawing rootkits should be considered as the public has a right to believe there's nothing installed on a CD that could prove to be a security risk.
