ERP vendors revamping tools
Enterprise resource-planning implementations are still a huge white elephant that organizations can't seem to make fit into the business operations. But that scenario could change big-time if the top three ERP vendors fulfill expectations on plans to revamp and improve their applications. The vendors, facing increasing competition from new players, are promising better integration and cleaner and simpler tools and are pushing their applications to Web services and service-oriented architectures in response to customer demand. But that doesn't mean all the work to make ERP achieve its goals falls on the shoulders of the software makers. As experts note, organizations still have to change their approach to ERP--instead of trying to make that ERP app fit their business mold, they need to remold their business systems and operations to fit their chosen ERP solution.
