Enterprises reacting to consumerization of IT with multi-layered security
There's no doubt that consumer tech is easing into the enterprise, whether that means gadgets, like tablets and smartphones, or social networking. In response to the evolving threat landscape, organizations are taking on a multi-layered strategy to protect their corporate networks from the inevitable risks posed by the consumerization of IT, according to a new survey by Proofpoint and Osterman Research.
Rather than focusing solely on trust, 51 percent of 632 professionals in an online survey indicated that they rely on a combination of trust, policy and technology for their security paradigm. Compared to blind trust or the creation of unenforceable policies, technology makes it possible to inform employees should they embark on a path that is against existing company policies, and also provides traceability in the event of a security incident.
This looks similar to what some security vendors are offering, such as Check Point, which explained its new security vision to me when I dropped by its CommunicAsia2011 booth last week. Have you deployed similar products in your enterprise?
