eBay may be heading to cloud computing
You may think of eBay as a major online retail and auction site, but it soon may be expanding into a new field--cloud computing.
InformationWeek reports that eBay has posted a job listing, saying the company is looking for a director of cloud computing engineering who will be in charge of leading eBay's "Cloud Computing initiative." It is not known whether this is an ad for an individual to manage eBay's internal cloud computing effort, or to develop a new business.
According to the job description, the new manager will be responsible for "strategy and implementation" of the user interface and software development kit "for cloud consumers," and "adapter development for CMDB and various provisioning environments." So what does eBay have to say?
"At this time, eBay can't say any more currently beyond what's in the job posting, but, in general, the company is always looking to expand its capabilities and expertise base," an eBay spokesperson said.
