Dumb moves by big companies
If you want to feel better about the way officers are running your company, look no further than Business 2.0's "101 Dumbest Moments in Business." The article details some of the biggest blunders, including several technology-related mistakes. Examples include the New York Times Co. inadvertently providing news carriers and retailers in Worcester, MA with credit and debit numbers of 240,000 subscribers; Sony necessitating a major recall for Dell by shipping defective batteries that caused some notebooks to burst into flames; Radio Shack firing 400 staffers via email; and the city of Hoboken, NJ, signing a deal for automatic lifts in one of its public garages but neglecting to train city employees how to use the system, trapping dozens of citizens' cars in the garage for days.
