Domain name explosion
An international organization that controls Internet addresses has agreed by next spring to allow companies, individuals and coalitions to create their own designations, or as the Los Angeles Times suggests, new web addresses ending in ".fun, .cars or .prettymuchanythingyouwant." The Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers will have the final say what word or name can follow the dot in a web address, but the move is expected to mean whole new classes of addresses. The cost will be high, but officials at ICANN expect tens of thousands of applications.
