DOE, IBM plan super duper supercomputer

On the heels of an announcement that it's still holding the top spot on the supercomputer list, IBM has declared its intentions to build an even faster computer--30 times faster than the most powerful system built to date--in partnership with the Department of Energy. The project, estimated to take five years and cost $58 million, will advance the speed and functionality of the IBM BlueGene/L system, the world's top supercomputer featuring a Linpack performance of 280.6 teraflops.
