No one ever said that the chief information officer at any company has an easy job. CIOs are constantly balancing business strategy and technology decisions, making it one tough challenge to be all things to all people. The high rate of IT failures demonstrates just how tough the job has become in this competitive and complex world.

An article on a ZDNET blog written by Michael Krigsman, CEO of Asuret, Inc., a software and consulting company, outlines a test you can take to see if you meet the qualifications and and are suited  for the CIO job. Here are some of the questions:

  • Are you are uncomfortable working with senior management?
  • Do you want to skip business strategic planning?
  • Does any kind of change drive you crazy?
  • Do you think SOX is a garment?

Be hard on yourself in taking this test. It's better to find out sooner rather than later that the job fits you just right, or if you should find some other position where your talents really shine. - Judi
