Disaster readiness
It's been a very bad week for people in southern California, not to mention CIOs trying to cope with the fire disaster and struggling to keep businesses afloat. Qualcomm CIO Norm Fjeldheim was evacuated from his home on Monday along with his family and two dogs. Fjeldheim moved into a San Diego hotel where he monitored the situation remotely and guided Qualcomm in dealing with fire issues, according to an article in CIO Magazine. Like many CIOs, he faced a similar fire catastrophe in 2004. His company has an "Operations Readiness" team in place for emergencies, including IT.
Many CIOs have had to deal with absent staff, not to mention power outages across the region, making business as usual even more difficult. Are you a CIO dealing with this disaster? We'd like to hear how you are doing and what advice you have for colleagues in the region. - Judi
