Despite advances, military IT under fire

While federal agency CIOs argued that IT was making inroads in military operations, lawmakers didn't seem that impressed during a House Armed Services subcommittee hearing. Proudly discussing the newly created Global Information Grid, and noting how the army networks are moving to converged Internet Protocol, IT leaders also faced some tough questions on actual costs and return on investment from representatives. The fact that the military's IT program is pretty busy everyday on the basics, such as dealing with 166,000 network threat events, and cut the damage rate in half over the year 2004, didn't seem to sway many on the subcommittee.
