If you're one of the brave CIOs planning to roll out Vista, keep in mind that along with technical issues like application and hardware compatibility, it's important to determine personnel requirements. After all, if you don't have enough staff of they don't have the technical capabilities, you won't succeed. First, assess your staffing situation, making sure to determine whether your existing staff can deploy Vista effectively while managing existing responsibilities, what types of skills will be needed, how long you expect the rollout to take and what type of ongoing support and maintenance issues a Vista environment will introduce. Secondly, recognize that deploying Vista will change the way your IT department functions. Third, make sure you plan for adequate training, especially of key personnel like your help desk, who will help smooth the way for other users. This might include setting up a test environment before deployment or signing users up for seminars, online courses, classes and certifications.
