Dell increases its Linux profile
According to Mark Shuttleworth, creator of the Ubuntu version of Linux and founder of the firm Canonical, we can expect to see Dell offer a growing number of personal computers that use the "open" Linux operating system while fielding a more balanced portfolio of offerings. The move could lend more momentum to offset the market dominance that Microsoft Windows has in the PC OS space. Dell is currently second to only HP in offering PCs to consumers and businesses. In a CNET article, Shuttleworth suggests that new Ubuntu-related announcements are imminent from Dell. While Dell will not discuss products in the pipeline, officials have indicated that they are encouraged with the market reception the initial Linux PCs have received.Â
