Data collection gains greater scrutiny

Privacy concerns about confidential data collection, specifically by the U.S. government, is prompting the Center for Technology & Democracy (CDT) to push for new and updated regulations on what the government is allowed to do in gathering data and how it can use that data in criminal investigations. It's not just cell phone data, says the CDT; there are privacy issues related to Web-based email and keystroke logging applications that are being used by agencies.
