Data centers head underground

More and more companies are making the decision to put their data centers underground because the cost is not as excessive and it is safer in case of a disaster like a bad hurricane.

This week's Computer World takes a look at a number of companies that decided to relocate their data centers, evaluating the reasons for doing so and what it took to get there.

One word of advice: Identify potential limits. For example, make sure the ceiling height is high enough and that there is sufficient airflow. Make sure critical infrastructure needed during a disaster, such as generators and cooling systems, are in safe locations.
