Companies are still hiring IT workers
It may be a tough job market out there, but not an impossible one. A new survey by Robert Half Technology found that 12 percent of the more than 1,400 CIOs surveyed plan to hire employees during the first quarter of 2009.
There are some critical places where IT personnel are needed. IT executives are increasing their investments in wireless applications, for instance, and that requires workers with skills to handle this, according to Robert Hall Technology. There will also be more money invested in information security to protect data from vulnerabilities, according to this survey. And companies are still pursuing the virtualization of servers and storage.
According to the survey, there are plenty of IT workers available for many of these jobs but ones with the skills and experience companies really want are in short supply. Robert Half suggests that job candidates must be willing to look beyond their customary environment to industries and geographical areas that promise continued IT growth.
