Remember the mainframe when it was in its heyday? Well get ready to stop waxing nostalgic because if IBM has its way the mainframe is going to make a huge comeback. The vendor is betting a good chunk of the farm as it readies a slew of software tools, support and academic programs to spur new business and draw new advocates to the technology platform. On the enterprise front, IBM is repositioning the platform as a "hub of Internet-based computing," but in Microsoft's view the revival is just a futile attempt to stem the bleeding from a dying technology.
