The 7 roles a CIO plays today
It may seem like CIOs have one role and one role only--implementing technology to foster the business and bring about innovation. But as an article in Optimize explains, tech leaders actually have seven different roles to play and none can be dismissed.

The top three to focus on include the role of utility provider, the duty of information steward and then the role of educator. Those three, along with the last four, are mapped out by Vallabh Sambamurthy, a professor of IT and executive director of the Center for Leadership of the Digital Enterprise at Michigan State University, and Ritu Agarwal, a professor and director of the Center for Health Information and Decision Systems at the University of Maryland's Smith School of Business.
