One strategy for keeping talent on board

A huge part of any manager's job is keeping good employees challenged and happy so that you're not dealing with constant churn and the headaches of having to hire again and again. There are lots of ideas in management books and articles on best retention policies. One of the latest articles calls for starting a 'talent review' in which employees who have done stellar work are awarded either a bonus stipend or a raise--unexpectedly. This strategy, as outlined over at CIO magazine, recognizes hard work outside of the usual annual review, and can go a long way toward retaining talent and also spurring greater productivity.
