Chevron joins the list of entities dealing with a laptop theft putting the data of thousands of employees at risk. According to the company, which issued an email to employees about the incident, the portable device contained social security numbers, and possibly health and disability plan information. The laptop was taken while in the hands of an employee of a third-party public accounting firm who was working for the oil company. In the notice Chevron say it doesn't expect employees to suffer any issues from the incident but will offer up services to those impacted by the theft.
