Change is in the air for CIOs, according to Dennis A. Trinkle, chief information officer at Valparaiso University. Trinkle, a 1991 graduate of DePauw, tells Direct Selling News that IT professionals are moving from being geeks to business analysts. The interview appeared on DePauw University's website. "Ten years ago, a deeply technical person could lead IT's operations; today a successful CIO must be able to think like a CEO and grasp all aspects of technology," he says. In many ways, the CIO is becoming the new CFO. And that position is evolving to one of strategic orientation for the enterprise. Things are really changing for the CIO, whose job did not exist a decade ago. "Today, the CIO has just as solid an overall view and influence on organizations through process. IT touches every process and most policies in an organization, and the CIO sits at the intersection of all the business drivers, from operations to innovation," he says.
