CEO: Intel re-org requires a few more months

At the outset, Intel said its re-organization effort would take a few months, and it recently announced some hefty layoffs. Now CEO Paul Otellini is backtracking a bit, saying that the business revamp plan will actually take the rest of this year. As Intel's quarterly earnings report is due today, rumors are rampant about what all the extra time is needed for. Some pundits expect some additional huge layoffs while others say the time is required for investigating and realigning the redundancies in Intel's organization. As one Intel exec describes it, getting rid of the company's "middle age spread" typically does take longer than many would think.
