Can your former workers be trusted?

The numbers are quite disturbing, and should be sobering for CIOs whose operations have been hit hard by the economic downturn. A recent survey by the Ponemon Institute found an alarming degree of damage being done by individuals who were laid off, fired or quit their jobs during the last year.

According to the report, 59 percent of those surveyed admitted to stealing company data and 67 percent said they used their former company's confidential information help them get a new job, reports NetworkWorld. Some IT managers are taking the internal threat seriously. Max Reissmueller, senior manager of IT operations and infrastructure at Pioneer Electronics in California, said his firm has network access control gear to monitor traffic. Others are taking similar steps, installing data-leak prevention firewalls.
