Can Jerry Seinfeld really sell software?
![]()

When the reputation and quality of your product is sagging, what do you do? Turn to Hollywood, of course! Microsoft has done just that to help sell its beleaguered Microsoft Vista software, hiring comedian Jerry Seinfeld to star in television advertisements.
One problem with this approach is that many of the youthful computer users may not even know about or relate to Seinfeld, or particularly care that his TV sitcom about "nothing'' was all the rage way back when. Yet the multi-million dollar advertising campaign is surely a drop in the bucket for Microsoft, and it may create the perception of a better brand image while getting some laughs. And a few laughs can never hurt.
Yet, a better approach might be actually fixing the software, avoiding the aggravation it has caused many of its users, and doing something about all the problems and security flaws associated with the Explorer browser. What do you think? - Judi
