C&L: CIOs offer up tips on moving into that next role


It's never easy moving from one job to another, even if it's a terrific career move and you know it's a great thing. As five CIOs relate in a recent Computerworld article, there are always going to be challenges, hurdles and issues. The trick is knowing what to expect and how to react. The first thing to do on the new job is to meet everyone you can, within IT of course, but more importantly outside of your management domain. Getting to know who's who and letting others learn about you can go a long way in fostering good relationships and business interaction. It's a great piece to read as it offers up anecdotes and real job experiences by fellow tech leaders.

Robert Howard has been nominated to serve as assistant secretary for information and technology/CIO at the US Department of Veterans Affairs.
Kenneth Orgeron is the first CIO at Gardere Wynne Sewell, a legal firm.
Gordon Errington has announced he's retiring from his post as deputy CIO of the US Department of Energy. Carl Staton has been named as his successor.
The new CIO at Georgia College & State University is Donald Steward.
