A new report from Internet Security Systems says that this year's bug number could hit a record high of 7,500 bugs based on the fact that the current count is at 5,450--already 300 over last year's tally. The spike, says director of ISS research group, X-Force, Gunter Ollmann, represents a "huge" jump in bug rates. The good news, though, is that the number of "critical" bugs has dropped off--with severe flaws accounting for just 17 percent of the bug swell, compared to last year's 28 percent.
