Braving an IT career in 2009
The economy is in big trouble, IT jobs are on the line and even outsourced providers are nervous. That's why you need a plan for your tech career. CIO.com says the worst thing you can do is give up or panic, noting that the technology job market, overall, is still doing better than other sectors.
To remain competitive, CIO.com says IT workers need some skills in recession-proof areas where demand remains high, such as security, VoIP and wireless. There are also some skills that are critical to a company's ability to stay running such as knowledge of COBOL, and ability to navigate open source, Net and Java. Certifications in security, networking and management can prove valuable.
