Avoid these IT manager mistakes
You're probably getting lots of advice on how to succeed, but there are plenty of management mistakes that IT managers and CIOs should avoid to maintain a shop that runs well.
This week, SearchCIO outlined some of the more common issues to stay away from. You won't avoid every one of these but just making sure you are aware of them is half the battle.
Here are some of the suggestions:
- Make sure you mix long-term change with quick gratification. Get the attention of the head office early and often.
- React quickly to any market changes and be ready for them. If the economic downturn has taught the business world anything, it is to be ready for the unknown and react accordingly.
- Be the best sales person your company has, know how to sell ideas. Speak passionately and with conviction.
- Leave your arrogance at the door. Hubris doesn't win any friends or supporters.
- Never lose sight of the big picture. Don't let the details drag you down.
