As IT changes, CIOs become information CFOs

As IT becomes responsible for more than just developing technology, new models for IT management are emerging. These models use traditional financial management parameters, acknowledging the economic value of information. This will effectively change IT managers and CIOs into something called an "informationalist" which is, in effect, the CFO of information for an organization. Through this role, the IT leader will be able to ensure that a corporation's data is audited and protected properly. And with this change in the role of IT management, new tools must be used, including the need for a common information infrastructure for all data regardless of where it resides.
