Are you hiring the wrong IT staff?
CIOs seeking to align information technology with business goals and processes often complain their IT employees are unable to provide the business with the support it needs or, in some cases, do not even understand the business itself.
The reason for this problem, suggests CIO Magazine, is that CIO's are not hiring the right people. While most IT managers look for staff with strong technology backgrounds, the answer to alignment may be finding people with strong backgrounds in both business and technology. This may mean looking for applicants with information systems degrees where their focus was on how to support business through the application of information technology.
Many CIOs, however, have tended to favor hiring those with computer science degrees--people who have spent more time on the science and development of technology.
