Are bigger IT budgets coming next year?

There's finally some light at the end of the tunnel, maybe. A new survey by The Info Pro consultancy finds that 40 percent of the 150 IT professionals interviewed say they expect bigger budgets next year. Your budget may finally thaw from the freeze that was imposed this year as the country experienced the worst recession since the Great Depression.

Most IT network professionals reported modest cutbacks in spending this year versus last year. And they seemed optimistic that it will change for the better next year, according to this ongoing survey. However, another 40 percent remain pessimistic and expect budgets to stay flat. So who's right? The survey is ongoing, so it may take some time to determine the final outcome on how IT is weathering this fierce storm.

Some of those responding to the survey said they expect increased spending to make up for network spending that stalled this year. Others say they are stuck with gear that needs to be updated, refreshed or just replaced and expect to be spending dollars to upgrade their systems.

It's nice to know that when the dust finally settles, there will be plenty of room to spend money on IT systems that were put on hold in '09.
