Five ways to get serious about security
You are probably hearing a lot of advice about how to protect your systems, but a new InformationWeek.com article puts it all in perspective. The publication highlights the ways IT teams are failing and have been blindsided because applications were easy to breach.
Here are a few of InformationWeek.com's tips to tighten security, as you work to keep your systems safe, despite all the threats:
- Your best defense is to integrate security into the application development life cycle. Building code with fewer security defects provides a greater return on security than just another patch.
- Add secondary controls such as encryption or internal firewalls.
- Know the limits of your security systems including intrusion detection systems and authentication.
- Review third party systems. Make sure you interface with systems that also have security.
- Plan for incidents. Get ready to respond quickly if you become the target of an attack.
