10 products to consider this year
IT budgets are widely reported to remain constrained this year, but that hasn't slowed the rapid flow of new technologies on the market. To help you sort through the possibilities as you consider new investments, CIOInsight's Don Reisinger presents 10 software and hardware products that may be worth the investment.
Most of the products highlighted are mobile technologies. Tablet computers are grabbing headlines as the new year opens, and RIM's (NASDAQ: RIMM) BlackBerry Playbook, slated for sale this spring, is aimed directly at the enterprise. The same can be said for the Cisco(NASDAQ: CSCO) Cius tablet, which boasts a host of security features to lure IT executives. Lightweight notebook computers--along the lines of Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) MacBook Air--offer more power and functionality than tablets while providing similar mobility. A more robust iPhone is also scheduled to hit the shelves in the coming months as well.
On the software side, the Android mobile operating system is expected to get some upgrades that may appeal to business users. Meanwhile, Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) Chrome OS, to be released this year, may offer an alternative to the desktop-based platform for some businesses.
