Experience may hurt your job hunt

You've got plenty of experience under your belt and great references, too. But it now looks like IT professionals with more than five years on the job are having a more difficult time finding employment than those with less experience, according to Beyond.com, an online career resource organization.

Beyond.com found that 79 percent of the IT candidates posting resumes online had five or more years of experience. Unfortunately for those workers, 59.47 percent of the online job postings were for candidates with less than one year of experience.

"In times of economic uncertainty, employers are extremely mindful of expenses, especially as it relates to their recruitment program, to ensure that their business is able to continue thriving," said Rich Milgram, CEO of Beyond.com. This latest survey may be painful news for the experienced IT professional. While a worker with less than one year of experience may be cheaper, he may not necessarily know how to solve problems and get work done like the industry's grey beards.
