An estimated 33 people have recently experienced hacking incidents in their Twitter accounts including President-elect Barack Obama. Twitter, the social messaging company, said the hacks are a separate issue from the wave of phishing attacks circulating since the weekend of January 3rd.
Security company Sophos suggests that users be cautious and on the alert. Twitter said the hack attack also claimed the account of CNN anchor Rick Sanchez. "These accounts were compromised by an individual who hacked into some of the tools our support team uses to help people do things like edit the e-mail address associated with their Twitter account when they can't remember or get stuck," said a post on the Twitter blog. "We considered this a very serious breach of security and immediately took the support tools offline. We'll put them back only when they're safe and secure."
