An excellent strategy in employee retention is paying attention to staff, their achievements, their goals and helping them reach their full potential. But the key element is making all of that attention very specific and on an individual basis. According to one career expert, while lavish rewards obviously do prove to an employee that they're considered valuable, there is a need to make encouragement a daily strategy--and it must be value-based. A pat on the back and a general "good job" isn't enough. The recognition approach that works best is pretty basic: management needs to reward and recognize staff both on a personal level, via a handwritten note, and in a public environment such as a team meeting or end-of-year awards ceremony.
