Wyse Introduces Innovative Infrastructure Management Software to Bring Simplicity to VDI-centric Cloud Computing Deploymen
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Wyse Technology, the global leader in cloud client computing, today announced its preview of Project "Pyramid", an innovative self-configuring client technology for the VDI industry.
At Cisco Live in London, Wyse previewed a new software technology named Project Pyramid which brings unprecedented simplicity to the management of virtual desktops. Project Pyramid will enable Wyse to deliver an innovative self-configuring client product line in the desktop virtualization industry. Project Pyramid automates the deployment of Wyse thin clients throughout a private cloud or server, whether the deployment entails ten devices or tens of thousands of them. This management software is so innovative that Wyse has filed multiple patents on the technology.
"There have always been significant benefits to the idea of desktop virtualization, but not always the tools to deploy such solutions simply and effectively," according to Param Desai, Sr. Director, Product Management at Wyse Technology. "Ease of use and simplicity are the next great innovations in VDI and we feel that Project Pyramid is a great step in that direction."
Client devices are updated to the latest firmware and/or configuration automatically on startup, user logon, or when instructed by Wyse management software. IT simply determines the desired configuration, and Project Pyramid automatically does the rest, with no imaging or re-booting required. Project Pyramid works with Microsoft write-filter technology, so it's fully secure. Users can be stationary, mobile, office or home-based. This level of automation is supported by clients with Wyse ThinOS, Wyse-enhanced SUSE Linux, and Wyse-enhanced Windows Embedded Standard.
“As desktop virtualization goes mainstream, our customers can deliver enterprise desktops and apps to users using any device, anywhere, while enabling IT to support a wide variety of rich clients, as well as thinner devices that consume less power. To do this, customers are asking for faster and simpler deployment options," according to Natalie Lambert, director of product marketing, Enterprise Desktops and Applications at Citrix. "Project Pyramid enables customers to roll out desktop virtualization to tens of thousands of users, with the confidence that their devices will work.”
“Wyse customers expect increased interoperability and compatibility from their thin client devices; by utilizing Windows Embedded platforms Wyse is able to accomplish just that,” said Alexa Barron, product manager for Windows Embedded at Microsoft. “We are pleased Wyse chose the latest software from Windows Embedded to deliver high performing, reliable devices that can integrate seamlessly into existing Microsoft IT infrastructure.”
"Project Pyramid complements VMware’s vision for a more user-centric approach to end-user computing by automating management and simplifying the job of today's IT expert," said Vittorio Viarengo, vice president, End User Computing, VMware. “We are pleased to support Wyse, a valued partner that continues to deliver more choice and increase capabilities to help customers further realize the cost benefits of desktop virtualization with VMware View™.”
Pricing and Availability
Project Pyramid will be available in Q1 for Windows Embedded Standard 7 and in Q2 2011 for Windows Embedded Standard 2009.
