On World Environment Day: Throw Out Your Legacy eDiscovery Technology and Data Center
~Dumping 30 legacy eDiscovery servers for one advanced Nuix server will save an organization 109,283 pounds of carbon and 83,887 kWh of power/cooling over two years~
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nuix, a leading vendor of electronic discovery (eDiscovery) and corporate investigation software, today challenged litigation support vendors, law firms and consulting firms to swap their legacy eDiscovery processing and data center solutions for more advanced and environmentally friendly technology.
In the lead up to World Environment Day on June 5, Nuix released new processing performance comparison statistics to demonstrate that modern eDiscovery software is better for the environment, more cost efficient and enormously improves speed and performance.
The latest speed tests with Nuix’s software were able to process 1TB of mixed data in 9 hours and 41 minutes on a single server, which averages 103 GB per hour per server. The vast majority of legacy software vendors can only process at speeds of 1GB per hour per server, meaning Nuix’s technology saves thousands of processing hours, improves the response time and removing the need to run a data center with racks of servers.
In terms of efficiency, Nuix can process 1TB of data using approximately 15.75KW. By comparison, most legacy vendors require 650KW to process the same, meaning Nuix is 41 times more energy efficient than those competitors. By way of comparison, running a single high end server at average US energy rates costs approximately $1,400 per year. In contrast, a 30 rack legacy data center, which produces less than 1/3 of the output of a single Nuix server, will cost approximately $14,000 per year in power alone.
“Apart from the obvious environmental comparison, the other story regarding legacy versus modern software is about the system’s total cost of ownership,” said Eddie Sheehy, CEO of Nuix. “Energy usage is only one element. The initial purchase, software upgrades, patching delays and the amount of space and effort it takes to run the required quantity of servers does not make business sense for an eDiscovery provider or their clients.”
“Using Intel’s energy saving online estimator, over two years dumping 30 legacy servers for one Nuix server will save an organization 109,283 pounds of carbon and 83,887 kWh of power/cooling,” Sheehy concluded.
“Organizations of every size are under pressure to reduce energy consumption and costs in order to be environmentally and fiscally sustainable,” commented Joseph Martins, Managing Director of Data Mobility Group. “Based on the research we have seen, Nuix’s software is much faster and requires significantly less hardware and energy than most other eDiscovery systems on the market, which can assist organizations in achieving their sustainability goals.”
