TermWiki, the New Social Learning Network, surpasses one million terms

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CSOFT International Ltd., a leading provider of multilingual localization, testing, and software development services for the global market, announced today the celebration of TermWiki.com’s one millionth term.

“This is an exciting time and important milestone not only for TermWiki, but also for its users all around the globe,” said Shunee Yee, President and CEO of CSOFT International. “It has been a wonderful journey thus far, full of knowledge, collaboration, social learning and sharing. We are delighted to be able to celebrate this important achievement and extend our appreciation to all who have contributed to the TermWiki community, which through their hard work and determination has become one of the fastest growing major social learning networks in the world.”

Less than a year old, TermWiki first entered the market as the language industry’s first wiki-based translation and terminology management portal. With the ability to create, share, translate, and learn terms and definitions in over a thousand subjects across 75+ languages, the site soon grew into one of the world’s largest community-oriented knowledge platforms that facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing and social networking in addition to its targeted encyclopedic functions.

In other words, TermWiki has effectively merged Wikipedia and Facebook into a new type of social learning community. By allowing its members to collaboratively develop, learn, and share knowledge, as well as connect with friends and peers in over 1,200 domains, TermWiki is changing the way people acquire knowledge and interact with friends and peers in an internet-driven world.

In terms of its encyclopedic functions, TermWiki introduces a number of new concepts that help to organize its content into highly structured sections. Unlike Wikipedia, which contains mostly flat data, i.e., text spread out on a page without any particular order, TermWiki uses only structured data organized into a set of pre-defined attributes or meta tags. This means that every entry in TermWiki’s glossary belongs to a structured database, so it can be easily indexed, searched, watched and translated, which enhances the efficiency and accuracy of its content. More importantly, it enables users to find relevant information and related concepts quickly and more accurately.

“This million-term celebration is primarily a huge thank you to TermWiki users around the world,” said Carl Yao, Executive Vice President for Global Strategy. “Their commitment and passion for collaborative learning is unparalleled, and we are astounded by their determination to promote knowledge-sharing among their peers in all walks of life. Their unwavering dedication to education is responsible for TermWiki’s fast growth, and is what will help TermWiki soon become the number one reference site on the web.”
